Native Instruments announced Stems, a new open-source audio format that contains four separate sub-groups of instruments.

DJ Tech Tools’ Ean Golden introduces the new NI audio stem format, which will allow DJs to choose the part of a track they want to use for a set.

Native Instruments is developing Stems for Traktor first but establishing it as an open-source standard to gain support from other developers. Online stores Juno, Traxsource and Beatport are already providing support for stems-based tracks. NI will be releasing an update to Traktor Pro with support for Stems in June.
