Ableton has announced that Link is now available in Live 9.6 – a free update to Live 9.
What is Link?
Playing electronic instruments in time together has never been easy. Now Link is here: a technology that makes it effortless. Link synchronizes beat, phase, and tempo of Live and Link-enabled iOS apps over a wireless or ethernet connection. It means you can forget the hassle of MIDI setup, hop on to a local network, and play multiple devices together with the freedom of a live band.
How does Link work?
Setting up is instant: just switch on Link, connect to the same network and start jamming. Anyone can start and stop their part while others keep playing. And anyone can adjust the tempo and the rest will follow.
Link works between several instances of Live, with Live and iOS apps, or even without Live in your setup: using Link-enabled apps on multiple devices or multiple apps on the same device.
Pricing and availability
Link is now a built-in feature of Live 9.6, a free update that Live 9 users can download now.
Link is now also available in a number of iOS apps – pricing of apps varies. To check out which apps already have Link built in, head to the Ableton site.
